Welcome to Benicia Bait & Tackle!
Benicia Bait & Tackle has been at it's
present location since 1972, and has been
owned and
operated by Curtis Hayes and Pam Royal since
2000. We began our adventure out of
frustration that there were very few bait
shops that catered to the weekend warriors.
None of the shops in our area carried any
tackle, and the bait was always mediocre. In
1999, we set up a mini bait & tackle shop in
our garage, experimenting on how to keep our
bait in the best condition. After a year we
found the perfect shop to move into, and
purchased a run down "bait shop" and turned
it back into a full fledged Bait & Tackle
store.
Products
We specialize in Sturgeon, Striper, Salmon,
Halibut and Tuna. Since 2005 we have
increased our
inventory to include an
extensive Largemouth Bass and Kokanee
selection. We have all your tackle needs,
with a wide variety of saltwater and
freshwater rods and reels. Our rod and reel
repairs are done by Vic's Custom Rods,
who has specialized in custom rod building
for over 20 years. Our Bait selection is
unsurpassed in the North Bay, with the
reputation of the best quality of live and
frozen baits. Bait reservations are welcome,
especially during derbys.
Fishing Access in Benicia
There are two easy access boat launches. The
Public Launch is free and is located on West
9th Street. The Benicia Marina Launch costs
$5.00 and is located on East 5th Street.
There are two public piers to fish on
without a license and numerous shoreline
fishing areas that produce a variety of
species at different times of the year. Come
in and talk, we'll send you to the best
places and recommend what baits to use.

Our Shrimp Boat - The
Hailey Haze
Our commitment to provide availability of
bait and quality of bait led us to buy and
operate our own Shrimp Boat, The Hailey
Haze, named after Curtis Hayes'
granddaughter, Hailey. The Hailey Haze
is a 32 ft Morris Trawler circa 1972, with a
6.35 Perkins engine. She is already
developing quite a reputation as CBS news
reporter Roberta Gonzales featured an
exclusive ride aboard the Hailey Haze. Click
below to watch the video (following a short
commercial)....
In fact, The Hailey Haze has become so
popular, that she has her own official
mascot... Baby Doll, aka BD Seagull.
Identifiable by the scar on her beak, she
gladly volunteered her services to serve as
mascot in return for treats of fish.
Baby Doll has become so comfortable on The Hailey
Haze that Curtis is eventually able to hand feed
her yummy treats of fish! Check out
the video of Baby Doll - BD Seagull...
